New Restrictions for XL Bully dogs

From 1 February, anyone found in possession of an XL Bully dog that’s not registered and does not adhere to strict conditions, will face a criminal record and an unlimited fine. To keep an XL Bully dog it must be:

  • microchipped

  • kept on a lead and muzzled at all times when in public

  • kept in a secure place so it cannot escape

  • neutered

Owners must:

  • be over 16 years old

  • take out 3rd party public liability insurance against the dog injuring other people

  • be able to show the Certificate of Exemption when asked by a police officer or council dog warden
