Salford CAB Christmas Food Appeal

Each year Salford Citizens Advice Bureaux holds a Christmas giving appeal. This year’s appeal will be aimed at supporting new food banks, and the new food bank network across Salford. We want to make sure that no one need go hungry in Salford over the winter.

Every year, as we approach Christmas over a hundred households come to us following various emergencies, and in need of urgent help to feed themselves for two or three days as they sort things out. This year we expect things to be even worse than ever, and that’s why we are asking people to donate to our emergency food appeal.

People can donate non-perishable food at any of our Citizens Advice branches across Salford. We need milk (UHT or powdered, long life), coffee, sponge pudding (tinned), tinned fruit, rice pudding, sugar, tinned meat or fish, instant mash, fruit juice (long life), jam, cereals, tea bags, biscuits, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauces, – or anything similar. Anything you can spare will be very welcome, so long as it’s not past its use-by date.

This year we hope to give out more than a hundred emergency food parcels before Christmas.

We are also working hard to make sure that every part of Salford will soon have access to a local community emergency food bank.

Volunteers will sort out the food, and organise parcels, which we will make available through local food banks and food charities.

This is really practical way to support your neighbours in what is often a really hard time of need. Often people are left without any money at a time of year when it can be very hard to manage or to make ends meet. Sometimes it’s because people are laid off over the holidays, or have their hours reduced. It can be because of some other sort of family emergency. It’s all too easy to find yourselves in trouble, and hungry at this time of year.

Salford Citizens Advice is here to help you, and we hope that through the generosity of Salford’s people, there will be some food to spare for those in real need at this time of the year.

Please donate whatever you can at your local Citizens Advice Bureaux, and help those in need at Christmas.
