Salford Recognised as a best practice local authority for partnership working around Council Tax Recovery.

Salford Citizens Advice and Salford City Council have been working hard over the last two years to improve council tax recovery in Salford – the 22nd most deprived community in the county.

This work had been recognised by the Money Advice Service as national best practice, and is featured in the Money Advice Service’s report on how councils can improve their debt collection; Published on December 4. (www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/corporate/press-release–supportive-council-tax-recovery)

The council has adopted the Citizens Advice and Local Government Association’s Council Tax Recovery Protocol, but has gone further, be authorising Citizens Advice debt advice staff to apply a breathing space to bailiff action. The Council and Citizens Advice are now working to see the Standard Financial Statement adopted by the council and all public bodies in Salford.
